  • Epson won’t print in black

I have not used my Epson Workforce Pro WF-3820 for a couple of years and decided to now use it. Ink levels indicate that the black/cyan/yellow cartridges have ink, but the magenta is empty.

However, I can’t even print in black nor greyscale, in that when I try to print it states that I need to replace the magenta.

REALLY? I need all four cartridges to have ink in them only to print in black or greyscale? My HPs would let me print if one or more of the colors were empty.

Being retired, I don’t want to by a 3-pack of Epson color cartridges only to find out that the printer does not work.

    I there a workaround?

    Thanks!

    Thom,

You may have a ‘dried in in the print nozzle / print head’ problem.

If you haven’t tried it yet, run through the printer maintenance >> print head nozzle check and print head cleaning steps from the printer’s control panel. That may or may not resolve your problem.

Ink jet printers are great, but unused, the nozzles and print heads will gunk up with dried ink. Manufacturers have come a long way with preventing / resolving this problem.

    Good luck,
