It sounds like there is indeed a connection issue or that security settings are blocking the other programs from accessing the internet. When you click on the internet connection icon in the toolbar by the clock, does it show connected with internet access?

Try using some of the troubleshooting steps at the link below, starting with the section “Things to try first”:

Thanks. I’ve tried each of those steps and am still having the same problem. I’m connected to the Internet, and the icon in the tray indicates I’m connected. I can use Firefox but can’t download and install ZoneAlarm or Thunderbird. I use PIA for VPN but can’t connect to it. I receive the same error message “check your internet connection.” At the HP website, HP can’t detect my computer model to check for updates. I still can’t access the Microsoft Store or SmartScreen or OneDrive. Any other suggestions? Thank you.

It is hard to say what the issue is, as it could be any number of things blocking the connection. Since this is a new PC, you may consider just resetting it. This will reinstall Windows and restore the computer to it’s original state. If it does not work at that point you will want to reach out to the manufacturer or place or purchase for assistance.
