Julie in Seattle, Washington wants to design menus and shirts for her small business. She asked me for some starting points. Money’s tight, so she wants to do it all herself.

First, I told her to check out Canva, which is one of my favorite free resources on the web. You’ll find templates for menus, brochures, flyers, book covers, postcards, stickers and more. It’s easy to use, so you can create colorful, appealing designs in a snap. Tap or click here for five simple Canva tips and tricks for better designs and graphics.

Nex, I told her to check out Merch by Amazon, which is also easy to use. Just upload your artwork, select a product type (like T-shirt) and Amazon will create the products for you. It handles production, shipping and customer service. You don’t have to pay upfront; Amazon takes a bit off the top when you make a sale.
