      Hi everyone!

Our team has been working hard on making it easier to listen to the Kim Komando Show podcast on your favorite device. We just launched a new podcast feed which works in the Apple Podcast app, as well as any Android or iOS app that supports authenticated feeds.

Of course, you can still listen through your browser from the Listen page: https://community.komando.com/listen/

Here is what you need to know:

      • Find the option in the podcast app of your choice to “add feed” or “add URL”.
      • Enter the feed URL: https://community.komando.com/feed/tkks/
      • When prompted, enter your Komando Community username (your account email works too) and password.

      ——————————————

      Update 11/12/2019:
Here are some walkthroughs for commonly used apps:

      iOS: Apple Podcasts
      iOS: Downcast
      Android: Podcast Addict
      Android: Podcast Republic

      iTunes
NOTE: If you were subscribed to the old feed, unsubscribe from that first (select the Settings gear icon, and deselect the Subscribed checkbox).

      To add the new feed:
Choose “Subscribe to Podcast” from the File menu and insert the podcast feed URL: https://community.komando.com/feed/tkks/

      Hi everyone,
I have not been able to download the shows to my PC from the site. I prefer to download directly to my PC and the download button doesn’t work.
Is there plans to fix this issue or do I need to to go in a different direction?

      Thank you!
      MsSandy

      Hi MsSandy

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. Are you trying to download from the listen page (https://community.komando.com/listen/) ?

If so, what happens when you try to download?
What browser (and version) are you using?

If the file is just opening and playing in your browser when you click the download link, you may need to right-click instead.

If you right-click the download link, you can use the option to “save as” as shown below. Note that this may be worded differently depending on the browser you are using.

      Hi @Danot

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. I verified everything is set up correctly on your account. I was not able to test this particular app, but it looks like it does support authenticated feed.

There must be an error with either the URL, username or password. I would remove the subscription and try again. An error I made when I first tested the feed was I forgot to include the “t” in “tkks”. Here the feed URL is again for your reference:

      https://community.komando.com/feed/tkks/

tried to use the link you sent to access iTunes downloads of Kim’s podcast. Just got a lengthy of plain text lines of what looks like code. I’m not a techie…..just need a link to get me back to “the good old days” when I had the podcast downloaded to my iPhone on a weekly basis.

      Hi @colcrm

Sorry you are having trouble. The link is for the podcast feed itself. If you click on it, it will just load the feed information in your browser. Here are the steps you need:

In iTunes, choose Subscribe to Podcast from the File menu and insert the podcast feed URL. Once submitted, it will prompt you for your username and password (for the Komando Community).

On your iPhone: With this new feed, you can also add it directly from your phone. This is recommended if you mostly listen from your phone.

      – Open the app called Podcasts.
      – Once there, tap on Library at the bottom.
      – Tap Edit at the top right
      – Tap Add a Podcast by URL.
      – Enter the feed URL.
      – Enter your membership username and password when prompted.

      Hope that helps!

I recently subscribed and can’t get any of the 3 poscast apps to download the show. I’ve used Podcatcher on Android for years and when I enter the url https://community.komando.com/feed/tkks/, it says “No results found”. When i search “Kim Komando Show” All I dget is Komando on Demand, Komando Tech News the Tech news today. I loaded the Komando app, and it doesnt’ really work like a podcast app either. It doesn’t download all episodes and keep track of what I have an have not listened to. Can you help?

I’ve also tried Castbox and when I search for the same url, I get “No matching Results”. I can search “Kim Komando Show” and it comes up. I subscribed, but it never asks me to log in, and the episodes will not download. I just keep getting download errors because it does not know that I am a member.

This is becoming so frustrating. On my iPod Touch, I followed the steps to subscribe. The first time I did the steps, I receive the authentication challenge. I think I entered the wrong username, but I never received an error message. No shows appeared for me to download, so I can only suspect that I fat fingered something. I’ve tried using iTunes to subscribe but all it does it shows me the entered URL. Now when I try to subscribe directly on my iPod Touch, I only get a message “Unable to subscribe. Podcast cannot be added because the server or feed cannot be found” I’ve verified my typing of the URL. I’ve gone into my Setting>Podcasts and selected the “Reset Identifier” option. opened the Podcast App and still get the same error message. I’ve been a Komando Subscriber for many, many years and cannot believe how difficult this is! FYI, today, before I started the steps, iTunes updated my iPod to the latest IOS (12.4.3) release and I’m still not able to subscribe. I tried using the Komando App, but it it doesn’t seem to let you download the show for off WiFi listening. I’m very technical, but this is really gotten me stumped. I can’t believe that I’m the only one that found out two weeks ago that they show URL changed, I don’t recall hearing it on the previous shows. Sorry to vent, but I’m at my wits end!

I am trying to down load Kim’s show podcast on the Downcast app, but when I select refresh, it has not download or shown any shows since the end of October. I am not a fan of the apple podcasting app, so I would like to stay with Downcast what I can do to fix this situation? Thanks, yours, Eric

      @KathyB2136

You will want to ensure you use the option to “Add a Podcast by URL” or “Add Feed Manually”.

If you use the option to search, you will get the error the podcast cannot be found. This is because the feed is not listed in a public directory since it requires a membership. You must add it manually. You will want to ensure you use the option to “Add a Podcast by URL” or “Add Feed Manually” in your podcast app.

In the Apple Podcast app, if you go to the Library you will see the option to “Add a Podcast by URL”. If you already have some feeds in your Library, the add option may not be on the first screen. In that case, use the steps below.

      – Open the app called Podcasts.
      – Once there, tap on Library at the bottom.
      – Tap Edit at the top right
      – Tap Add a Podcast by URL.
      – Enter the feed URL: https://community.komando.com/feed/tkks/ (usually you tap enter on keyboard to submit)
      – Enter your membership username and password when prompted.

      ———————

      @KathyB2136

I was unable to find an app called Podcatcher in the Google Play Store to test it out, but in Castbox you have to do it a little differently. That app does not have a place to specify the username and password, so you must add it into the URL like this:

      https://KathyB2136:yourpassword@community.komando.com/feed/tkks/

I just tested this on my own account in Castbox and verified it does work.

      ———————

      @WEW

The feed URL has changed. Sounds like you have not resubscribed under the new feed.

      In Downcast:
Tap “Add” on the bottom bar, press “Add Podcast Manually” and in the “Feed” field paste the URL of the RSS feed (https://community.komando.com/feed/tkks/). Then hit “Subscribe” in the top right.

I did follow the correct steps to “Add a Podcast by URL”. As I stated, initially I was prompted to enter my login credentials, but no shows appeared, so I thought I hit a wrong key. I’ve downloaded different players. Most don’t have the ability to add a URL. I’ve had 4 that did let me, but all the error messages are the same (or close). “Server at hostname not found”, “could not find feed at URL”, “error 401”. If I put the URL in a browser, I’m prompted, so I’m at a loss why the podcast app can’t get to it.

Sorry to hear some of you are still having trouble.

Please note that not all podcast players will support adding subscription based feeds.

For iOS: Apple Podcasts, Downcast, and Overcast are the applications we have tested.

Please see my walk-through for setting up Apple Podcast by clicking here.

For Android: Podcast Addict, Beyond Pod, and Podcast Republic are the applications we have tested.

Please see my walk-through for setting up Podcast Addict by clicking here.

@elliot1975 What error are you getting in Downcast? I just made a walkthrough here which may help.

      @jjramon

      Apple Podcasts

We recently found a possible bug in the app when trying to test the feed: If you remove the feed and try to re-add it, the app will return an error that the URL can not be found. The only solution we found to getting the app to accept the URL again is to reset the phone. The app seems to be retaining some bad data under certain circumstances and not clearing it out. This does not happen in all instances, but we were able to duplicate this on two different iPhones. Our IT team has reached out to Apple to see if they know why this may be happening and if there is a work around.

It is worth noting that in most cases you should not encounter this error.

However, if you are getting an error in the Apple Podcasts app that says the URL can not be found, this may be the reason. In that case, you can use another app like Overcast (free) or Downcast (paid). Both support adding subscription-based feeds.

I sent you an email response earlier as well. I know there is a lot of information in this thread, but there are setup steps and information for multiple apps in this thread. You mentioned you are using iTunes before. For iTunes, there are only a few short steps:

Choose “Subscribe to Podcast” from the File menu and insert the podcast feed URL: https://community.komando.com/feed/tkks/
Enter the username and password you use to log into this website (community.komando.com) when prompted.

      That should be it!

You can remove the old outdated feed by selecting it and then hitting the Delete key on your keyboard.

      Hope that helps!
