An elderly friend just asked for my help. She was on her desktop Windows PC when she started getting pop ups that told her her Discover Card had been charged $10,000 and to call a phone number on the screen, which she did. She got suspicious after talking to the scammers and hung up. She then called her daughter who told her to shut down her computer and ask someone for help (me). She also called Discover, confirmed it was a scam, and got a new card. I’m planning on scanning her computer with MalWare Bytes and CCleaner. Is there anything else I could use in addition to these programs to sanitize her PC?

    Hello Henry,

Great that her Daughter had her shut down her PC and go through the motions of replacing the card.

Definitely sounds like a pop-up scare, to be safe be sure to use either Microsoft Defender or another Anti-Virus scanner such as Total-AV.
