I have several Amazon Echo speakers that I use to control my smart devices (thermostats, lights, door lock, sprinkler system, etc.). I also have a number of Google Nest cameras (which are compatible with Amazon’s ecosystem for now), but I’m thinking of adding a Google Home or Hub to the mix to streamline certain functions. For example, Alexa isn’t compatible with the MyQ garage door opener hub, but Google Assistant is. Anyone else using two different platforms simultaneously, such as Alexa and Google Assistant? If so, what’s been your experience?

I don’t have any smart speakers or hubs, but I have several smart lights, outlets, and thermostat that I can control with the Alexa app on my laptop and my phone. I can also control them with the Google assistant on my phone by saying “Hey Google” or “Alexa”. The smart lights are from 3 different manufacturers, and the smart outlets are from 2 different manufacturers, which control lights, security cams, and a portable fan. On my Alexa app device list is also an Amazon Fire TV Stick, but I can’t get Alexa or Google Assistant to control it.

I just picked up a couple of new smart outlets at Costco. I put one on my backyard security cam, so I can reboot it manually when it fails. I also put one on the backyard security light, which has a motion sensor, but sometimes small animals don’t activate it. So I can turn it on from the app on my phone or PC. We get lots of wildlife coming up to get a drink of water or snack on a treat once in a while.
