I am looking at Kim’s Great Stuff email today about a new photo management tool called digiKam. It looks, on the surface, like an improved version of Google’s Picasa, which I love and use for its simplicity. I am getting ready to migrate to a new computer and looking for something like Picasa.

      Any comparisons?

      Hi Christine,

Nothing compares with the greatness and simplicity of Picasa. It’s too bad that it no longer exists as a stand-alone program but rather kinda almost maybe like Google Photos.

Digikam isn’t as easy to use as Picasa but it is powerful. If you are looking for easy, have you tried Adobe Photo Elements?

      Kim 🙂

      Thanks Kim,
I can’t stand Google Photos, it is too controlling and I can’t find anything. I like to be able to move my photos into folders as I work on various projects and Picasa allows me to do that as well as re-name photos.
I don’t necessarily need to enhance photos and you have given some fine programs for that like Fotor.
I’ll give DigiKam a try on this old computer. Other option? is to download Picasa from File Hippo. I’d be willing to pay if I could find a program like Picasa. I am the family genealogist and have many hundreds of family photographs that are cataloged and organized into folders. Picasa allowed me to easily manage and add photos as I acquire them.
      Thank you again,
I have listened and received your emails for many, many years…
      You are appreciated.
      Christine.

Thanks Christine for the background and kind words.

I haven’t tried this program but people who use it seem to like it:

      ACDSee Photo Studio Home

Maybe this might be better for you than DigiKam.
