So I noticed that MS Office 365 updated in my add/remove programs yesterday so this is most likely an issue with the latest version. In excel I link files to my receipts which are mainly in .png form and I can click the custom link to a file in the Receipts folder to launch the file and view it for invoicing. It worked fine yesterday (most likely pre-update) and today I get this window:
Sorry, I can’t link a photo, the post gets destroyed for some reason when I enter the photo link on this post but is says: “You will need a new app to open this about link” “Look for an app in the MS Store.”
When I launch the files from their location on my Windows 10 PC, they open fine in the Photos app, they just will not launch from the Excel links anymore.
.pdf files and other office files launch fine from the Excel sheet, so the issue is with image files.
“Repairing” Office did not fix the problem.
What version of Excel are you using? You can find it in File/Account/About Excel
Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2204 Build 16.0.15128.20158) 64-bit
It is working as expected and I am running the same version of Excel, I recommend resetting the default programs
Start -> Settings -> System -> Default Apps
Click the “Reset” button under “Reset to Microsoft recommended defaults”
It should then stop giving you that pop-up.
No luck 🙁 . I would love to just go back the the 2203 version, but all the instructions for rolling back are either very complex, out of date, or don’t work. Is there any safe place to download the past versions and install after totally uninstalling MSO 365?
The only real way is following this https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-revert-to-an-earlier-version-of-office-2bd5c457-a917-d57e-35a1-f709e3dda841
This way forces the download of the version you want from office 365, which they do not have available as a regular download
It looks like the July update of MS 365 fixed this issue, yaaaay!
