Lost Files and Recovery
I am using a macbook pro, M2, 2022 13”, running Sequoia 15.2, 8 gb memory, 262 GB available on drive.
I first noticed missing documents sometime during the summer; not possible to tell just how many because many of them are only used occasionally but there are many files missing.
After several sessions with Apple technical support they were unable to help me with any sort of recovery. The last person I talked to basically said that it was my fault for having a VPN (total AV) installed and also for using an app called Clean my Mac.They claimed that because of these apps previous backups were unsuccessful. I have used the cleanmymac app for several years on at least two MacBook laptops and have experienced no previous problems. I began using TotalAV around two years ago. I always figured I was protected because I have iCloud storage and automatic backup on. Apparently not!
The last Apple tech person I talked to also claimed that Macs do not need any of these kinds of apps and that all that is necessary is the free version of MalwareBytes. I am skeptical of this claim but don’t have the knowledge to dispute it. Is this true?
And secondly — What is a good quality recovery app for Mac that I can purchase to try and recover my lost documents?
