Katrina from Iowa City, Iowa has an enormous photo collection. She asked me if there are any resources she can use to save all of her photos from the past, present and future. Katrina also wants a feature that recognizes and sorts faces.

Luckily for her, I’m a master when it comes to photo organization. Here’s my guide to organizing your messy photo collection.

I also shared two recommendations with her. First, Adobe’s Creative Cloud offers a Lightroom plan with 1TB of cloud storage. It gives you everything you need to edit, organize, store and share photos across desktop, mobile and the web. For around $10/mo, Lightroom Classic lets you organize your photos based on file type, metadata and even the type of lens you used when snapping your pictures.

If you prefer a free option, you’ll want Google Photos. This handy tool offers free, unlimited storage for photos up to 16 megapixels and videos up to 1080p resolution. Use it to easily organize your collection into various subjects such as People, Places and Things. This makes finding photos easier and faster.

It’s very simple to use, too. You can add images to your Google Photos account from your computer, tablet or smartphone and set up automatic syncing. Here are 20 Google Photos tips you can use to take control of your pictures.
