  • Printing shuts off computer

Posted by Roy Simmons on September 10, 2024 at 9:54 am

My wife has a new Dell mini-Tower on WIN11 and I have a old HP laptop on WIN10.
Almost always when either of us print on our matching Brother laser printers, her computer shuts down. 🙁
Also, a light in our office goes off for a moment, but comes right back on.

Her computer says something about her video card.

We will be forever thankful if you all can help solve our problem.

    Hello Roy,

I would start off by checking your wiring for all of those devices, you are having a power issue. It could be a bad power strip or a poor or loose connection on the back of her PC or even at the outlet.

You could try to move the printer to another outlet that is separate from her computer. Lastly, if you purchase a UPS (Uninterruptible power supply) and put her computer on that her computer should no longer shut off when you print.

Laser printers pull a lot of power to warm up the heat the fuser roller.
