I play an online game (Warthunder) with my son and three grandsons. I have been using a PS4 with accessories (Joystick, Throttle, and Rudder Pedals} typically used on a PC for flight simulation. I recently acquired a PS5, and found out these accessories do not work on a PS5. I contacted Sony customer support by telephone and did not receive any help as they told me these accessories would not work on a PS4 either? I have my son, 3 grandsons, and myself that could dispute that comment. I then wrote a letter to Sony (2 months ago) gaming headquarters in California concerning that issue, but they did not respond. So my question is there an adapter or trick to use these accessories on a PS5 ?

Hello William, or shall I say awesome Dad/Granddad.

Let me know the make and model of your accessories and how exactly you connect them to your PS4.

Then I know this sounds silly but are you running the PS4 version of the game on your PS5 or the PS5 version?

After I have this info, I can better assist with the situation.

Little more on the topic, mixed reviews. Are you using a powered USB hub?

Thank you John for the reply. Running PS5 version. Accessories: Throttle is a Thrustmaster TWCS, Rudder pedals are a VKB T-rudder MKIV, and the Joystick is a Virpil VPC Mongoose T-50CM2. Others that work on PS4 are Thrustmaster Warthog Joystick and throttle. VKB Gladiator Joy stick, These are all usable on the PS4 but not the PS5. I connect them using a powered usb hub thru a usb switch so i can switch between the PS and PC. thanks again William

      Hello William,

I’m still looking for a better solution than replacing all controls.

I see that Virpil joystick offers more features than most, I found an interesting article here saying that it might be best to wait for either newer hardware to come out or try downloading and installing the PS4 version of the game to see if then the controls will be detected.

Play Station 5 Compatible Joystick with Throttle
      Play Station 5 compatible rudder.

Hello John. I suspect that Sony is limiting the aftermarket accessories to those that are “Sony approved” only. Otherwise those that pay Sony to be authorized accessories. I got a hint from then Thrustmaster customer service as some of their equipment is “Sony authorized” and some is not. On questioning him he said that there is a chip in the Sony authorized equipment that The PS5 recognizes. Thats why i thought that maybe someone had come up with an adapter or way to work around this problem. It is weird that Sony has come out with a console that is comparable to a PC , but they want to limit to senseless games for children, and ignoring the more technical and realistic games like flight simulation or Military simulation.

John i dont think the HORI PS4 HOTAS Flight Stick for PlayStation 4 Officially Licensed By Siea – PlayStation 4 , identified above will work on a PS5. The other Thrustmaster TFRP Rudder (PS5, PS4, XBOX Series X/S, One, PC), will work but is not very good, more like a toy product.

      Hey William,

I saw that and was going to recommend until I read a few reviews of people getting banned while using this device. Due to people using scripts to cheat at games.

Yup saw that also. What got my attention was the so called ability to use accessories across different platforms . i dont know if it was used that way it would be considered using scripts
