Macy from Charleston, South Carolina is in a difficult situation. Her 20-year-old son asked her to help him control his addiction to porn. She has tried Mobicip, Net Nanny and Bark — but her son finds ways around each program.

I recommended two resources. The first is X3watch, which was created by the folks behind XXXChurch.com. This website is designed to help porn addicts recover. It costs $90 a year.

X3 is all about accountability. It monitors an addict’s internet activity and generates accountability reports at the end of each week. It also lets addicts choose accountability partners to keep them responsible. In this case, Macy’s son could pick her as a partner.

The second site I recommended was CovenantEyes, which costs about $16/mo. Like X3, it’s all about keeping an addict accountable.

However, it goes a step further with blocking capabilities. It protects all major search engines as well as YouTube from explicit content. Its Clean Browsing-powered domain blocking feature saves you from looking at millions of explicit websites. It also lets you custom block websites.

Another great resource for parents is Culture Reframed, founded by Dr. Gail Dines. This site builds programs for parents, professionals and students to “tie this porn monster down piece by piece.” If you want to get a broader idea of this program, tap or click here to watch her TED talk, “Growing Up in a Pornified Culture.”
