Mike from Phoenix, Arizona wants to take pictures of tourists around landmarks and make them available for sale. He asked me how to get started. I pointed him towards ZenFolio and SmugMug. He can use both of these resources to create a photography portfolio.

I also told him this: If you want users to be able to order your photos directly from your SmugMug portfolio and you would like to make a profit from the sale, then you will need either the Portfolio plan or the Pro plan. With these plans, you set the prices for your work and SmugMug handles the rest of the process. This includes everything from payment processing to product creation and shipping. It takes a 15% cut of the profit from your print sales.

Mike plans to head to popular tourist events and snap pictures there. I told him to hand out cards with his website address and have people click on the event. This way, they can browse through the pictures he took and decide if they want to buy any of them. Mike will just need to tell them the portfolio password.
