Word footnotes do not number sequentially
Even ChatGPT making section breaks continuous cannot so that number sequentially in my 11 page document. My footnotes go to #7, then start again at #1. Word says there is a control in the Footnotes drop down right bottom corner. There is none in Word 16. Help direct me to an diagnosis and solution – ruining my work doc!!!

This took longer than it should have to answer and I apologize for that.
To access the advanced options to control your footnotes:
- Go to the References tab on your ribbon.
- Click the small dialog box launcher (arrow) in the bottom-right corner of the Footnotes group to open the Footnote and Endnote dialog box.
From there you can change things like page numbers, formatting, positioning, & layout.
