Three weeks ago I had an update to my AsusUX431F NoteBook Laptop with Intel i7 10th Gen Processor with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. After the d/l it started into the usual setup process bur near the end it went into the dreaded blue screen and showed the message that something went wrong. The message then said it would fix (or repair, I can’t remember which) the problem and for me to please wait. When it completed the “repairs” the home screen came up and me name was now spelled incorrectly and my “password” (it should have asked for my PIN) wouldn’t work. Since I’d never set a password I was going to use my USB recovery stick. To my dismay I discovered another family member had copied over it with other files rendering it useless. I thought, no problem, I’ll just boot into safe mode. Except there is no longer such a thing, at least not like it used to be. And trying to find it from the knowledge files from Microsoft was a waste. Can someone please help me?
Boot into Safe Mode from outside of Windows 11 or Windows 10
Windows 11 and Windows 10 automatically boot into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) if Windows fails to start three times in a row. Three consecutive failed attempts trigger this action. Booting to Safe Mode outside of Windows is achieved in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
When you first turn on the computer, let it start to boot the power it off 3 times in a row then you will be presented with various recover options.
Follow these steps to enter Safe Mode from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE):
At the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot.
At the Troubleshoot screen, select Advanced Options.
At the Advanced Options screen, select Advanced Startup Options.
Select Startup Settings.
Select Restart.
The computer restarts and enters the Startup Settings menu. Select 4 or F4 to start the computer in Safe Mode. If you must use the Internet, select 5 or F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
I FINALLY got to the options screen that allowed me to get into and run my recovery program. It just seems a shame that MS could take a straight forward process they had before Win 10 and convoluted it so badly! Thanks for the info!
