  • Renewal Charge – Compromised?

Posted by ROGER HUNZIKER on June 10, 2021 at 10:57 am

Yesterday I got a email saying I was being a charged $398.98 renewal charge on Mcafee 360. Like a fool I called them to cancel the renewal and they said I have to cancel on line and they would talk me through it. I noticed the site they sent me to seem to have some control of my computer because the curser would move with out me using the mouse. Any I filled out the cancel form which include my name ,address ,birth date ,both my telephone numbers, and name of bank. and sent the form in. It said I cancelled the renew but on the phone they wanted me to check the bank on the computer to see if I got the refund. I said they was no way I would check the bank on the computer I was on. I felt they would get my sign in and bank password. They argued with me and I hung up on the phone and shut down the computer. When I signed back on the computer I ran the free C clean to get out any tracking stuff they may have put on the computer. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS THERE ANY THING ELSE I SHOULD DO TO THE COMPUTER BEFORE I SIGN IN TO MY BANK ACCOUNT. Please let me know what I should do. THANK YOU

Roger, go through your installed programs and look to see if a remote desktop view was installed like teamviewer, gotoassist, splashtop etc., if so remove it. I would also run a scan of you computer using you current a/v and setup 2 factor authentication with your bank for sign in. Let us know if you need anything else.
