I have an HP notebook that has worked very well. Lately, when I plug my speakers into the port the sound cuts in and out. I tried re-installing the drivers, checking the speakers with my cell phone and radio. The on-board speakers are fine. I am wondering if I need to find a new part. I use my computer as my radio and stereo. The on-board speakers don’t have the best of sound because of their size.

      Hey Wally,

We have some troubleshooting to do. Are you able to test a wired pair of headphones in the port on the computer, possibly another set of speakers you can try?

You may even want to clean the contacts on the cable coming from the speakers that plug into the computer, and if you have compressed air dusting the audio jack on the computer.

If we determine something is actually wrong with the port, you can click here for a cheap USB to 3.5mm sound card.

I shot some compressed air in all the jacks and ports on my computer it has been working so far. I have also ordered a USB sound card just in case. I bought it from WISH which I have been very happy with. Thanks so much John. I know I probably need to consider a new computer. Mine is over eight years old.
