  • Directv Popup Notices, unable to turn off

I am looking to see if anyone has contact with higher management at Directv/ATT. I have for years been trying to get them to give us the ability to turn off the “press rewind to watch from the beginning notice that pops up at the bottom of the screen every time you change to a program/channel that offers that feature. They have a reverse arrow in the channel banner but seem to insist on having this huge pop-up at the bottom of the screen that expains it. You can turn off other “channel enhancement notices” but not this one or the “Sports Score Guide App” popup. I have called many times and they say they are sending my request up but nothing every happens. I cant even get a reason for not offering a setting to turn these off. I even have a seperate reciever that is not on the internet so that I can avoid the popup during channel surfing, which I like to do. Now because that receiver is part of my whole home connection it has the popup after a software update. It is even worse than on the Genie as it is blue and bright. It also does not work as my second reciever is unable to access the internet. I have been a member of Kim’s club for years and I know that you probably would be unable to have an answer but maybe you know someone that does, through your media connections. Note: I can make popup go away quicker by hitting the exit button but I do not want to see them at all.

    Thank-you
    Collin Anderson

    Hello Collin,

This rewind feature seems to be peeving many of users on the ATT forums, unfortunately as you discovered only the Exit button and possibly removing the device from the internet are the only available solutions. However since it has been going on since 2014 I wonder if you are eligible for an upgraded receiver that may no longer have this issue.

    Thank-you for the reply.

I can get the Genie 2 but it is a headless reciever and I am pretty sure that it has the same issue. I see the feature as a good idea, what I do not see is the fact that we need a huge pop-uup as a reminder, when it is available. There is an icon in the channel banner that lets you know that it is available. At the very least give us the ability to turn it off, not by default but with us going into the menu to disable the notification. Also the internet disconnect is no longer an option as my second reciever does not have the ability to get on the internet and I still get notified about a feature that will not even work on that reciever.

Do you or Kim have contacts that are higher up in the “ATT food chain” that could be contacted about this ?. At the very least I would like to know why they do not give us the ability to turn off the notification.

I thought about getting one of those internet only connections for TV channels but you can not “channel surf” as you have to select the channel manually from the guide. There is no up down channel option.
