I want to edit 8mm film
How would I go about doing that?

Hello Bill,
First if you want to edit 8mm film you will first need to get it digitized, you can use a company such as this one here.
In turn then will digitize your media and put it on a USB drive, from there you can use just about any video editing software.
I recommend either KdenLive or Davinci resolve for video editing.
