I use idrive but I also like to have my photos stored on an external hard drive.

I use Windows 10 on a Dell computer to edit, copy, paste my photos from my phone to the hard drive. Since about a year ago it doesn’t work anymore. Is it my phone that’s the problem or a windows update, or something else?
It works for a while but then quits.

When I plug my iphone 8 plus into my computer via USB it immediately sends me this message.-
“We’re having trouble connecting. Make sure your device is unlocked and that you accept the notification to connect.”
My phone is unlocked but it doesn’t send me a notification.
I hit the “try it again” link and it asks where do I want to import from. My iphone is listed as an option but when I click on my iphone link it starts the error message all over again.

I have plenty of room on the hard drive where I am saving all of the photos.
When I go into my iPhone as if it were a hard drive. It lets me copy from my phone and paste to my external hard drive individually the first 10 file folders labeled 100APPLE, 101APPLE, etc.

I paste each folder separate from the other folders.

When I get to 112APPLE it starts pasting some of the photos and then stops. It does this for a few of the folders and then quits pasting the rest of the folders. I have 127 folders of photos.

      Hello Lee Ann,

It sounds like you may have a bad USB cable, can you try using a new cable and possibly a different USB port on the computer. Might be worthwhile to blow some compressed air into the port on your iPhone if the issue persists after swapping for another cable.

Please be sure you are running the latest version of IOS on your phone, alternatively you could use and iCloud or Google account to upload your photos to the cloud then you could save them to your computer from the either of the vendors online storage.

      Apple’s Recommendation

One of these solutions will ensure you have a safe backup of your photos, let us know how it goes.

Well…I did everything you suggested and nothing helped. I used a new cable, different USB slot, and made sure my phone was updated but nothing helped 🙁
