  • Is Open Office secure?

I am looking for office software that is secure and doesn’t cost a fortune or link to the cloud. I have used Open Office before, but now when I search for a download link, I see that there is Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice available for download. Does one or the other provide better security and compatibility with MS Word?

    Both are secure.

Although both LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice can open and edit native Microsoft formats DOCX and XLSX, only LibreOffice is able to save to these formats. If you’re going to be sharing documents with people using Microsoft Office, LibreOffice might therefore be the better choice.

    I hope that helps.
