  • Multiple Listings For The Same Contact

Posted by Janice Gilman on October 9, 2021 at 2:05 pm

I have an iPhone and iPad with the same issue.

My contact list shows I have thousands of contacts when in reality most of them are duplicates. Other than individually deleting the duplicate contacts, is there a way to mass delete the duplicates? I may be a retired senior citizen but deleting each of the extras is time consuming AND tedious.

    Thank you for your help

    Hello Janice,

You will want to start off by making a backup of your contacts.

    Open Contacts.
    Select All Contacts.
Click a contact in the Contacts list.
Choose File > Export > Export vCard or choose Edit > Select All to select all cards for export.
Choose where you want to save the files, then click Save.

    Merge duplicate contacts.
    Open Contacts.
From the Card menu, select Card > Look for Duplicates.
    When asked, click Merge.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 until no duplicates are found.

You can also find an article here on komando.com which suggests an app that can clean up your contacts as well.
